How It All Started

This website was created after protests and paddle outs occurred all over the nation, following the death of George Floyd. The response to the murder of George Floyd has furthered the awareness of all Americans to the racism that is the “dirty secret” of this nation’s history.

This website was started by Emily Pan, a second generation Chinese American born and raised in San Luis Obispo. She is now attending University of California, San Diego and studying bioengineering: biotechnology. She created this website to preserve the mark Asian Americans have left on the Central Coast over the years. Included in this website are videos, interviews with local historians and residents, photos of artifacts, and much more!

This website was created with support by: Dr. Grace Yeh, Ethnic Studies, Cal Poly SLO; Dr. Daniel Krieger, Professor Emeritus of history, Cal Poly SLO; History Center of San Luis Obispo County; Elliot Gong; Jim Gregory; and Richard Waller. The funding for the domain and hosting of this website is made possible through the #HWPActionGrant and Cal Poly Ethnic Studies.
